The square 120 mm body is what makes this tray behave differently from the rest of the range: there is no long side to catch on a shelf divider or a crate wall, so a pack can be set down at any angle and still sit flat. Four eggs in 72 mm of depth also means a heavy shell never reaches the rim, which matters because preserved eggs are lifted and turned constantly on a deli counter.

Every pocket on this tray is loaded by hand, so the cavities are cut generous enough for a preserved egg to drop in without being pushed, and deep enough that no shell touches its neighbour. The flat rim is what makes stacking work: an upper tray rests on the rim, well clear of the eggs underneath.

The HP4 is the only square tray in the preserved range. With no long side, the 120 mm body can be placed either way in a crate, and it sits evenly on a small counter where a 288 mm tray would overhang both ends and invite a knock.
